CORRECT TREE PRUNING TECHNIQUE TRAINING (Safely and Effectively Prune Shrubs and Small Trees )

Training Delivery:

Training and assessments conducted by A Plus Training Solutions, holder of Certificate IV Training and Assessment (TAE40110 & TAA40104) for assessment against:

AQF Unit of Competency:
AHCPGD203 Prune Shrubs and Small Trees (replaces AHCPGD203A) and

Australian Standard: AS 4373 - 2007 Pruning Amenity Trees

Purpose

The object of this course is to provide participants with:

A basic understanding of tree biology (CODIT) and the knowledge and skills to safely and effectively assess pruning requirements and use the correct pruning procedures and practices to minimize the adverse or negative effects of pruning on shrubs and small trees as per AS 4373 - 2007 Pruning Amenity Trees.

Recognition of Training

A nationally recognised Statement of Attainment to AHCPGD203 Prune Shrubs and Small Trees (replaces AHCPGD203A) will be issued (by Equip-Safe, RTO # 0846) to applicants who meet the criteria required from the Training Package. This may require supplementary evidence in the form of a report from a suitable supervisor, or further assessment.

Location

Courses will where practicable be conducted on client's premises. Sufficient shrubs and trees will be needed for each operator to gain sufficient practice and to demonstrate practical pruning competency during assessment process. If sufficient shrubs, trees or venue is not available, a venue and practical activity site may be organised at additional cost.

Duration

A Plus Training Solutions will recognise the fact if participants have had prior pruning experience, or other relevant industry experience. Participants will still need to do the full assessment, but may be precluded from areas of the training where you are already operating within the requirements of the guidelines.

  • 6 hours for most participants.


  • Some participants, due to a variety of factors, may require more time to develop the knowledge & skills required to demonstrate competency.

Course Fees:

The courses will be run in groups of 8 to 15 participants at a cost of:

$250.00 (GST Free) per person: 6 hour course.

Individuals or smaller groups should contact us, as we may be able to fit you into a larger group. Otherwise fees may be negotiated.

A surcharge may apply for work on weekends or public holidays

Assessment

Supervised written and/or verbal and practical assessment.

Equipment

Participants will need to wear their own pruning and protective equipment and hi-vis shirt. All other required equipment and training notes are provided for participant's use.

In order to increase training relevance and operator comfort, trainees are encouraged to use any or all their own equipment if practicable.

This can include:

  • Secateurs, Loppers, Hand Saws, Pole saw, tools, fuel and oil
  • Safety equipment
  • - Hard hat (pole saw)
  • - Approved eye protection
  • - Hearing protection (ear plugs or ear muffs)
  • - Safety boots
  • - Work gloves
  • - Sunscreen
  • - High visibility clothing

Demonstration of Competence:

From experience, we find that people have different levels of ability and experience when it comes to handling machinery. If a person, due to a lack of experience, requires more time to develop their skills, more time may be needed to increase their skills to a competent level.

Personal Requirements:

Participants should bring along their own personal requirements for the training day.
