LEVEL 3 CHAINSAW COURSE - INTERMEDIATE TREE FELLING

Training and assessments conducted by chainsaw guru, Peter Tutt, (Chainsaw / Felling specialist with over 40 years of chainsaw direct industry technical and training experience), holder of Certificate IV Training and Assessment (TAE40116, TAE40110 & TAA40104)

Provide participants with the knowledge and skill to assess, plan and safely carry out manual tree-felling operations using a chainsaw This course covers the felling procedures for felling sound trees that require significant tree assessment and practical felling skills. This can include trees up to twice the bar length in trunk diameter and up to 40 metres tall as per:
Certificate of Competency (COC) to Operate and Maintain a Chainsaw - Level 3 (Intermediate Tree Felling) - as per AS2727-1997 Chainsaws - Guide to safe working practices
Preferably on client's premises. A suitable area with trees for falling will need to be provided.
If you do not have access to a suitable area, we will endeavour to provide a venue and practical activity site but additional cost may apply.
Note: Time may be reduced to one day for participants with extensive prior tree felling experience.
Some participants, due to a variety of factors, may require more time to develop the knowledge & skills required to demonstrate competency.

Before commencing the course, the applicant must be competent at operating and maintaining a chainsaw in accordance with AS 2727-1997 "Chainsaws - Guide to Safe Working Practices", and have completed our Chainsaw Operate and Maintain - LEVEL 1 and LEVEL 2 (Basic Tree Felling) courses to ensure underpinning skills and knowledge are demonstrated.

Assessment
Supervised written and/or verbal and practical assessment.
Equipment
Participants will need to wear their own protective boots and hi-vis shirt.
All other required equipment and training notes are provided for participant's
use.
In order to increase training relevance and operator comfort,
trainees are encouraged to use any or all their own equipment if practicable.
This includes:
- Chainsaw, tools, wedges, fuel and oil
- Safety equipment
- - Hard hat
- - Approved eye protection
- - Hearing protection (ear plugs or ear muffs)
- - Safety boots and over-socks (recommended)
- - Cut resistant trousers or chaps
- - Work gloves (optional)
- - Sunscreen
- - High visibility clothing for forest if applicable
Demonstration of Competence:
From experience, we find that people have different levels of ability and experience when it comes to handling chainsaws. Some participants, may require more time to develop their skills to a competent level.
Personal Requirements:
Depending on location of the training, and availability of take away food outlets, it is advisable for trainees to bring a packed lunch and plenty of drinking water to each training day.
